Huaripampa Village Computer Center
Giving the gift of knowledge
IMPACT
PROJECT HISTORY
In 2017, as World Wide Trekking ran the first trip to the Santa Cruz trekking region of Peru, HOP endeavored to build a computer center in the remote community of Huaripampa in order to give back to the places we travel. With the help of the Bradburns and Riggs families, and donations from Dell Computers, we constructed and equipped a computer center with 10 laptops and 10 digital cameras. The building is in operation and the school holds class every day for its students to learn how to use the computers.
In 2018, HOP returned to Huaripampa to expand the resources available at both the Pashpa and Huaripampa computer centers with a Remote Area Community Hotspot for Education and Learning (RACHEL). Developed by the non-profit World Possible, RACHEL is designed specifically for use in schools and education centers located in remote areas. The system connects offline computers to free educational resources including full Pre-school through college level curriculums, thousands of hours of educational videos, tens of thousands of books in English and Spanish, and educational games.
In 2021, we broke ground on building a new kitchen and new restrooms at the primary school.
How Can I Help?
Every contribution, no matter the size, is utilized to continue supporting education in this remote village.
WWTrek’s Voluntourism Santa Cruz Trek visits both Huaripampa and Pashpa village to not only help out with local projects, but also take in stunning scenery within the Cordillera Blanca mountain range.
Donations go towards maintaining each center’s exterior building, as well as the various computers, and educational tools these communities utilize to sharpen skills for future professional trades. Financial support will also help HOP update school restrooms and wash basins.
- $1500 covers computer center maintenance and educational supplies
- $2000 covers school restroom and wash basin updates
FUTURE GOALS
We are continuing to follow up with our HOP Ambassador, Rodolfo Reyes, to track the impacts of our projects and discover further needs. With the two flagship projects in Huaripampa and Pashpa, HOP hopes to start connecting villages throughout Peru to the rest of the world. It is our hope that with the right tools and education, people in these villages can better equip themselves for the modern world, and improve their community’s health, economy, and future.
